Glaiel-Gamer

Goodbye, line preloader

Posted by Glaiel-Gamer Nov. 28, 2007 @ 2:49 PM EST

Many of you probably instantly recognize my works by my signature line preloader, which loads a bar towards the mouse. Well, no more. I have made a much snazzier, AS3-based loader which is just a lot cooler than my old preloader.

I would like a lag report though please, it if lags too much for people I'll make a less intense version.

lags a little and it looks nice but i think u should go for something a little less extreme maybe make it smaller and not as hardcore if see what I'm saying.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 2:58 PM Glaiel-Gamer responds:

hey pezzo get on aim

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:04 PM test-object says:

God... I want those 5 minutes back :(

Awesome preloader, but I'm afraid it would take longer to load the preloader than your movies itself. I presume it'll be a bit faster in the future?

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:14 PM Glaiel-Gamer responds:

the preloader is 8 KB, takes no time at all to load

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:09 PM Dazmi says:

woah, that's cool!
I'm getting no lag, but I bet those Windows 3.1 users might get a lot =]

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:25 PM Icyknuckle says:

....SO im pretty sure that that was the coolest pre laoder iv ever seen lol i mean it was acually interesting..........but in terms of lag yes there was lag but really i didnt care because it looked so cool so really im happy :)

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:33 PM flash-moron says:

thats amazing, how long did it take you to make that???

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:46 PM Glaiel-Gamer responds:

a day i think

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:35 PM cumSum says:

cool but laggy. way better than the previous one.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:36 PM Gmagnum says:

Jesus Christ that was cool, no problems here.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:46 PM Coaly says:

When's the goodbye gecko post coming out?

Nov. 28, 2007 | 3:50 PM alicetheDroog says:

Lags just the tensiest bit, but I think it looks better that way.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 4:20 PM LPkicksass says:

wait... preloader? that was not a movie? amazing is all i can say!

Nov. 28, 2007 | 4:23 PM alicetheDroog says:

You could probably submit that as is, and it'd get high 2s-low 3s.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 4:31 PM SaltshakerClock says:

wow, i was playing around with that for 5 minutes straight.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 4:47 PM flash-moron says:

lemme guess was it a huge code

Nov. 28, 2007 | 4:49 PM Jynxxx says:

That was as epic as two naked girls.

Well...one.
No lag.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 4:56 PM JonBro says:

Lags quite a bit for me, but I am really impressed with the ActionScript. I probably couldn't do anything like that in a million years.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 5:20 PM CtG says:

Its hard to see :S

I think its way to crazy, its very hard to see how much has loaded

Nov. 28, 2007 | 7:40 PM Blingo says:

its awesome mousing over it and seeing it all melting back together like the guy from terminator =] should be more than just a preloader but i'm not sure what!

good stuff, *tiny* bit laggy on my laptop, nothing serious tho

Nov. 28, 2007 | 8:27 PM Imacow says:

Good, but overkill for a preloader.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 9:20 PM Daza says:

That's fucking incredible. Gold star for you, man.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 9:40 PM Blips says:

thats actually amazing! Man, I should get back to flash... damn school >:(

Nov. 28, 2007 | 9:40 PM Luis says:

i cant decide who makes the most lagged out usless flash widgets.. you or truedarkness.

its a close one.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 9:44 PM Glaiel-Gamer responds:

Truedarkness's stuff lags because his code sucks though. My thing lags cause... 10000 particles...

Nov. 28, 2007 | 10:05 PM Bezman says:

Slightly laggy.

I'd like to see a less intense option. Awesome as is, but I'd like to see the choice.

Would it add to lag if you were to make movement based on elapsed time rather than a per-frame thing? Or is that already how it's done anyway?

Nov. 28, 2007 | 10:07 PM Vengeance says:

Possibly incorperate an automatic fading trail turn down dependant on lag? Also, you definately need to make it start as just the image, the way at starts looks kinda bad and random. So yeah, start unbroken, automatic fading trail turn down and it'd be a good preloader :P

Nov. 29, 2007 | 6:37 AM Glaiel-Gamer responds:

the fading trail causes no lag BTW, but ya i'll make it start closer to the original

Nov. 28, 2007 | 10:44 PM Luis says:

well remember its just a preloader. i doubt anyone will vote 5 just because its laggy preloader with 100000 particles.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 11:17 PM Rudy says:

That looks really cool even though it kinda looks nasty to be honest. I don't know just little dots all together make me go "ewh." Hm. It looks really fucking cool though. Hopefully, it'll go faster though in games.

Nov. 28, 2007 | 11:45 PM Skulldugger says:

No lag for me.

Nov. 29, 2007 | 1:38 AM The-Swain says:

i am on a monster computer that can process anything instantly. ANYTHING. My video card is like a sniper rifle. It's insane.

Needless to say, Flash itself still mildly lags the preloader just a tad. I test it by having other applications open at the same time as your preloader and the applications run fine. It ain't a system resource thing.

HYPOTHETICALLY. Really.

Nov. 29, 2007 | 6:38 AM Glaiel-Gamer responds:

Hypothetically flash doesn't use the video card for this.

Nov. 29, 2007 | 1:55 AM wormguy says:

Wicked awesome.

Dec. 1, 2007 | 5:24 PM DP36 says:

sweet home Massachusetts oh swweer home! Werre da skys are so boo!

Dec. 1, 2007 | 7:18 PM ShortMonkey says:

A bit laggy... didn't freeze my comp at all though. Looks good but who could tell it's a preloader?

Dec. 3, 2007 | 11:20 AM MindChamber says:

Awesome Coding. I think the blurring is unnecessary. Its is Probably whats causing the lag for some people. you should try it without the blur.
That "G" is still Ugly as fuck tho. You need to hire a designer and work on that shit already.

Dec. 3, 2007 | 3:50 PM Glaiel-Gamer responds:

the blur is simply fading out the bitmap data partially instead of completely, so it's the same amount of processing power to blur as it would be to erase.

It's 10000 particles that's causing the lag.

Dec. 8, 2007 | 3:39 PM ripoffhitman says:

That was a really cool preloader, how all the little dots formed to make the image of the G, it lags a lot though, but then again my computer lags everytime I go to my userpage. Awesome job on the preloader, also very original.
